How Can I Get a Big Powerhouse Voice?

by Phil

My biggest struggle with singing is I want to develop a strong, powerhouse voice. At the moment I'm not getting the power I want.

From The Editor

Hey Phil, this is a great question.

Developing a powerful voice is something that will really give you an edge as a singer. Really let you shine through.

So how do you do it?

Well, first let me tell you what not to do!

The biggest mistake made when a singer wants to sound powerful is they "yell" and "push" their voice.

There are many reasons why this is bad for your singing.

The most important reason it's bad to push your voice is you'll immediately engage a whole host of muscles are aren't supposed to function while you're singing.

This will greatly damage your tone quality, limit your range, and give you a very sore voice!

If you do this for too long, you can actually develop vocal nodules and have to go under the knife to fix it.

What Should You Do Instead?

Instead of forcing your voice, the key to developing a strong powerful voice is to build on a foundation of correct technique.

When you do this, you will find you can push air through your voice at greater pressure without engaging your swallowing muscles.

The best way to develop great vocal technique is to practice exercises that get your voice functioning correctly.

In the video section of this website there are many video singing exercises that will get you well on the way.

Pretty soon, you'll find you'll be able to "lean" into notes with more air pressure and this will give you a huge sounding, powerful voice.
