Can't sing at all, was told to sit down and not even try at school and so I have mimed for 40 years - all i want to be able to do is to sing a hymn in church without it sounding flat!

Hi Cathryn.

Ok, so right now you may not be able to sing very well.

But everyone, yes EVERYONE has the ability to develop a wonderful voice.

And this includes you!

It takes time. It takes dedication and practice. But if you want it enough you will do it.

Here's the key to developing a great voice.

You must practice exercises that help you develop proper, correct singing technique.

Good technique is the difference between someone sounding terrible versus sounding like a pro singer.

Many star singers could not even hold a note in the beginning.

One other tip I'll give you is it's very useful to record yourself from time to time.

You can learn a lot by hearing yourself sing and you will progress a lot faster when you give yourself this feedback.

You don't need professional recording gear to do this. Just go to the shops and purchase a cheap microphone. Then use a free software program like Audacity to record yourself.

Now, as for the exercises...

To get started be sure to check out the video section on this website. You will find some brilliant lessons that will help you get started.

Practice these and you'll be surprised at how fast you progress!

Good luck in your singing journey, and please keep me informed with your progress.

Don't give up and you'll get there for sure.
